February 24, 2015, Dusit Princess Hotel, AVC announced new rules at the meeting with the referees and coaches. A major rule change is the net rule, “touching the net with any part of the body constitutes a net fault even if the ball is not in play”.
Mr. Shanrit Wongprasert, AVC Secretary explained that this new net rule, which has been enforced since this January, aims to prevent injury. Spikers tend to slide into players on the opposite side after a big swing which often causes collision at the net. Other rules were also announced, together with the discussion on developing new referees.
Roster rule was also amended, the Secretary added. Each team with 2 liberoes may submit up to 14 names, instead of 12 as the original rule. The host of upcoming tournaments can decide if they would start enforcing this new roster rule. The 2015 Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship in China this late May could potentially adopt this rule.
